Fresh Blow for Housing Waiting Lists

Tasfire Another Housing Tasmania property is in ruins after fire broke out early this morning.

It's believed the two-bedroom unit on North Caroline Street at East Devonport was vacant when it caught alight.

Fire crews and police found it engulfed in flames on arrival - arson investigators will take a closer look later today.

There was around $150,000 damage.

 
Jess Mauboy’s Ulverstone Fundraiser

Sunday May 19th, Aussie star Jessica Mauboy's in concert in Ulverstone to raise money for 2 boys severely burnt in Northwest Tasmania.

Organising committee member Melissa Cruse has been working on the event for months, and has called it 'Come Together' to recognise the extraordinary sense of communal spirit around the children, Spencer and Fletcher.

The concert's at the Ulverstone Arena....tickets available at Burnie's Mecca Restaurant, Ulverstone's Maveric Clothing, and Devonport's Entertainment Centre

A potential public and worker safety horror story's emerging in Tasmania's NBN roll-out, with the Electrical Trades Union witnessing contractors down old telephone pits pulling out asbestos with no precautions or training in the deadly material.

The Union's David Mier's visiting Hobart numerous work-sites today, and is shocked at what he's seeing....(more)

Cyclist In ICU

A 60 year old man’s suffered serious head and spinal injuries following a horror bike crash in suburban Launceston this morning.

Paramedics arrived at the bike track bordering the East Tamar Highway at Mowbray around 8:45am to find bystanders doing CPR on the West Launceston man.

Police say he collided with another cyclist while turning a corner.

He was rushed to the Launceston General where he's now in intensive care.

The other cyclist – a 19 year old from Mowbray – received a minor shoulder injury.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident.

 
GP Alleged Grope Decision Reserved

A Glenorchy doctor will have to wait until the 23rd to find out whether he's been convicted of indecently assaulting a patient.

Thomas Charles Foley has denied squeezing the woman's buttock during a routine medical examination.

The Hobart Magistrates Court heard the unnamed woman made another appointment with Dr Foley immediately after the alleged incident.

The 62-year-old has been in practice for nearly 40 years.
