Police conducted road safety operations on highways around the V8 Supercars event over the weekend, with 187 people caught speeding in just three days.
Inspector Nick Clark said officers patrolled the Midland and Bass Highways, with a focus on the reduced speed zones near the Simmons Plains Raceway.
“We need everyone to get to and from these sorts of events in one piece, and these reduced speed zones are in place to ensure everyone’s safety,” he said.
“We also caught one person drink driving, and another driver tested positive for drugs.”
“Police will continue to conduct both highly visible and covert road safety operations around key events so the people attending, and those working, can be kept safe.”
If you witness dangerous driving, report to police on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
