Tasmania’s Commission of Inquiry into child sexual abuse has announced it will deliver its final report a few months behind schedule.

A final deadline of May 1 was initially set down for the high-powered panel to deliver its findings of paedophilia in the Launceston General Hospital, Ashley Youth Detention Centre, various schools and the out-of-home care system.

That’s now been pushed out to 31 August, although there’ll be no further public hearings or expanded scope of inquiry, due to the complexity of the information provided plus the need for procedural fairness.

Commission President Marcia Neave is vowing to ensure the final report and its recommendations are thorough and contribute to the safety of young Tasmanians.

Last year, the inquiry heard evidence from 165 witnesses over eight weeks of public hearings in Hobart and Launceston.
