A number of drivers have been nabbed in a multi-agency traffic operation in the Central Highlands.
Tasmania Police’s Bridgewater Division was joined by Southern Road Policing Services, Marine Division, and the Dog Handlers Unit; together with Inland Fisheries Officers, Transport Safety Officers, Parks Rangers and Parks Compliance Officers, conducted Random Breath Tests, Drug Tests, Vehicle Checks, Wildlife and Firearms Enforcement over the weekend.
Teams spent four hours stopping cars at the junction of Highland Lakes Road and Poatina Road on Saturday, in conjunction with the opening of the Brown Trout season.
Officers reported:

2 x Drink Drivers detected (readings of 0.14 and 0.09)

1 x Driving whilst an illicit drug is present (cannabis)

3 x minor firearm offences

31 vehicle defect notices issued

3 x Unregistered vehicles

2 x Unlawful possession of illegally cut firewood

Acting Inspector Jason Klug has called the findings disappointing to see, although the majority of motorists were doing the right thing.
“Road trauma caused by crashes on our roads effects entire communities and Tasmania Police will continue to hold those people, who flaunt the law, to account,” said Acting Inspector Klug.
