A minor flood warning remains in place for the Huon River at Huonville which began subsiding after peaking at nearly 3.5 metres early on Thursday morning.

Downpours of more than 60 millimetres in the western catchment on Wednesday saw the river surge that night, reaching near-2016 major flood levels at Tahune Bridge at around 8pm.

“SES, Tasmania Police and Huon Valley Council personnel doorknocked and contacted affected residents in approximately 15 homes and businesses in the expected flood impact zones to prepare for evacuation,” said Tasmania SES State Executive Director Mick Lowe.
