As many as 60 local jobs are on the chopping block with Coles set to close its distribution centre in Launceston.
The supermarket giant is shutting down its warehouse in Garfield Street, to be replaced over the next three to five years by an $880 million automated centre in Victoria.
That centre will also service Tasmania.

There’s not been word on whether local workers will be employed elsewhere with the company.
Coles says the wellbeing of affected staff is a priority.
Independent Launceston MP Rosemary Armitage says the decision is disappointing and will have a significant impact on local families.
