More industrial unrest at LGH

Health unions assembled members at the Launceston General Hospital to send a message they want 50 support workers retained.

Hired to help the hospital through the extra work load of the pandemic, their contracts end next month.

Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation’s Emily Shepherd can’t imagine how the hospital can cope with a decrease in worker numbers.

“They have been brought in to assist with the increase with infection control measures that have been required due to Covid and of course we require them ongoing, Covid has not gone away, we’re heading into winter, certainly we’re looking at influenza….these are now essential positions.”
