A North-West Coastal police officer holidaying in the Northern Territory has been involved in helping a man who was attacked by a two-metre crocodile at a popular swimming hole.

Taneka Starr was swimming with her family at Wangi Falls in the Litchfield National Park about 115km South of Darwin on Monday when the attack occurred around 11.30 am.

Detective Starr says she was swimming with her children and other family members when people started yelling to get out of the water.

She assisted people in getting out of the water, including the injured man, who had non-life threatening injuries to his arm.

Detective Starr and her sisters provided first aid until emergency services arrived.

She described the incident as terrifying.

The swimming hole has been closed and Northern Australian Parks are working with the Crocodile Management Team to remove the croc, with a thorough survey of crocodiles in the area to be undertaken before it’s re-opened.
