1303 new cases, government ditches Facebook figures

Tasmania’s recent COVID-19 surge has continued, just hours after the public health emergency declaration ended. 

1303 new cases and no deaths were reported on Friday morning, the largest spike seen for months, taking the number of active infections above 6700. 

It coincides with the Health Department’s decision to no longer post daily COVID stats on its social media sites.

Information is instead just being published on the Coronavirus Tasmania website. 

There are 47 patients in hospital with the virus, including four in the ICU.

There’s no longer a breakdown of the amount of COVID-positive hospital patients and those being treated specifically for the virus.
